New catheter gives more control to men with impaired hand functionSpeediCath Control, a new and unique catheter launched today, has been designed specifically for men with impaired hand function who need to self-catheterise. "Until now, some men with low dexterity found it difficult to self-catheterise," explains Jan Seberg Simonsen, the Senior Brand Manager for SpeediCath Control. "SpeediCath Control has been made to help men aim for and insert the catheter into the urethra." Increased rigidity The latest addition to the SpeediCath range of products makes life easier for users by way of a stiffer tubing section. The tubing section increases rigidity, making it much easier to insert the catheter because you have far more control over aiming and positioning. Responding to users The idea for the product came out of focus groups, where the need for a catheter that was easier to insert was first suggested. "We went from idea to product very quickly," Simonsen continues. "Basing SpeediCath Control on a regular SpeediCath catheter meant we could respond to the needs of users rapidly. Of course, it was hard work, but we got there, and reaction to the new product from users has been very positive." In addition to making it easier for users to self-catheterise, SpeediCath Control also offers less discomfort during insertion, polished eyelets to avoid urethral damage, ring-pull packaging that can be opened with one finger, is easy to dispose of, and easy to connect to a urine bag, as well as being ready to use instantly. SpeediCath Control will initially be rolled out in eight countries across Europe during April 2009.
